Separately Managed Accounts
Separate accounts are customized portfolios of stocks, bonds and other investments that can be closely tailored to meet financial objectives such as growth, safety, tax efficiency, or income. Sophisticated investors often opt for investing in separate accounts because they offer customization, adaptability, consistency of management style, tax efficiency and transparency. Achieving the right balance of risk and reward involves both art and science. By carefully assessing client needs, asset allocation, equity preferences, and risk management, an effective solution is attainable.

Mutual Funds
Open-end investment companies or mutual funds issue shares to the general public and use the cash proceeds to acquire a portfolio of investment securities, which are managed by fee-paid professional money managers. As a result, purchasers of investment company shares are acquiring a piece of an investment pool that is professionally managed, with the objective of generating profit through portfolio income and capital growth. Investment companies offer the opportunity for even the smallest investors to achieve a broad diversification of investment securities.

The mutual fund industry is huge, and there are thousands of different funds available for investment. Different funds have differing investment objectives and invest in different types of portfolio securities.

Variable Annuities
A variable annuity places the risks and rewards of investment performance upon the annuity holder. The annuity holder determines how his/her account funds are to be invested, by selecting among a group of portfolio options offered by the insurance company ("separate accounts"). Choices may include money market funds, stocks, bonds, and may be further refined by factors such as growth, value and income. The ultimate value of any holder’s account, and the size and/or duration of future periodic annuity benefits are dependent upon the relative performance of his/her investment choices.

The earnings or growth within a variable annuity are tax deferred. Ordinary income tax is paid eventually on any gain inside the contract. There may be contract penalties for early withdrawal as well as federal excise taxes for distributions prior to age 591/2. In recent years, there have been a number of riders introduced by carriers that are designed to provide (under certain conditions) guaranteed principal or income regardless of the annuity’s performance. Charges, fees and contractual requirements should be reviewed carefully by the holder before any riders are purchased.

Certificates of Deposit
Certificates of Deposit occupy a unique niche in the investment universe by virtue of their combination of high yield and federal government backing (FDIC insurance). This superior principal protection is exploited to the fullest extent through brokered CDs, which offer a great variety of high-yielding alternatives and afford an array of advantages over traditional bank CDs. CDs represent the most basic fixed income investment.
